Molly's evening was filled with nostalgia, rain in her boots and no sugar in her tea. Quite unnaturally, she found it to be perfectly suiting.

Her watch ticked amiably over her wrist and she glanced at it idly from atop the Whizzing Arrow IV (the ship courtesy of him). Five more minutes and Jordan was going to be late. Being the Avatar had its perks, though she supposed his busy agenda didn't exclude him from any supernatural happenings, whatever or whenever they may be.

She sipped her tea thoughtfully, unsure of her decisions to call for him like she had. He probably had better things to do... and this meeting could only cause more unrequited pining between them. Once a year visits were hard to take, but understandable. She couldn't bring herself to feel angry with him when his sacrifice from so long ago had been one of his choosing. She was willing to wait if it meant he would come—and that was what seemed most important on these long expected days.

The years on Earth passed quickly, anyhow. Jordan would drop from the sky like a star that had been shot from some distant cannon, and in only a year—365 days (but that number seemed marginally larger and more frightful than a solid 1), he would be back again, glowing bright, body made of those specks of dust that always seemed to dance in the sunlight along her windowsill. His Avatar face would smile, and then, with a gentle flash, he'd be Jordan again. He'd be solid and steady. He'd be warm. And he'd be a comfort on these worrisome days of her foggy future.

This particular evening was cool though, and the breeze made her shiver from where she sat. Molly picked at her overalls, not really sure what she was waiting for. Jordan would arrive when he arrived; there was no sense in useless wishing. At her feet, she could hear Koji and Stan talking quietly. After the first year Jordan had granted them an unexpected visit, it had been their idea to meet in this place where it all started. Since then, she found herself drawn the racing track whether Jordan was destined to arrive or not.

Maybe it was the fact that she missed him, but she found she missed running her hands along the side of her star-racer, too; the smell of oil and artillery smoke from her partner's spectacular aim; the smell of spray-paint, of Oban's grassy air and fields. She missed it all. But she wouldn't ever tell him about her loss, for his loss was far larger than them both.

She wasn't destined for this life of calm and solitude she now lived, that much she knew. But, she couldn't turn her back on it. That wouldn't be fair. To Jordan, the Earth Team, or herself. She would live it, and on these nights when he got to be a part of that team again, she would live for him, too. And she would wait, because at the very least she knew she could give that part of herself to him, even when her heart would eventually shudder and stop.

Wearily, she took another sip of her tea; it was cold now from sitting out in the open shop for so long, but the mint was still strong in its flavor. Molly ran her hands along the mug, her nail digging into a small chip on the handle. A comfort. Something familiar. Her feet swung dully and she checked her watch. Jordan was late.

"Eva." Her father.

She set her mug aside cautiously, leaving the chill behind as she stood to attention, carefully balancing herself on the cockpit's roof. Don Wei smiled up at her, Koji and Stan in tow. They were grinning, grease on their faces and wrenches sticking from their pockets. Outside, the landscape glowed unnaturally softly in the night.

Instantly, like an intake of air, Molly knew.

"He's here."
